Žilina (in German: Sillein,in Hungarian Zsolna) is a city in northwestern Slovakia. It is located on the confluence of the Váh and 13th century at the place. It became a free royal town in 1312. Today Žilina is the third largest town of Slovakia and houses a university (founded 1953). Since 1990 the historical centre of the city has been largely restored.
