The Zaza are an ethnic minority in eastern Anatolia (Turkey). Their language, Dimli or Zazaki, is closely related to the kurdish language. For this reason, the Zaza are often referred to as a subgroup of the Kurds. Until recently, Turkish authorities banned the public use of Dimli/Zazaki, and they have tended to use the words Zaza and Zazaki as pejoratives, leading to an increased preference for the term Dimli among the ethnic group themselves.
Zaza is also a name that appears in the Bible, meaning "belonging to all" or "plenty".
