Wincenty Witos (1874 - 1945) was leader of the Polish Peasant Party and periodically premier of Poland during the early 1920s. In 1926, his government was overthrown by an armed coup d'etat led by Jozef Pilsudski. Witos was then imprisoned but escaped to Czechoslovakia only to be imprisoned again in 1939 by the invading Germans.
