Warren Moon (born November 18, 1956 in Los Angeles, California) is a retired gridiron football quarterback.
In college, he played for the University of Washington Huskies. Moon led the Huskies to a 27-20 win over Michigan in the 1978 Rose Bowl, and was voted MVP for his performance.
Despite this success, Moon was unable to find employment as a quarterback in the NFL - many commentators suspect because he was black. Moon looked north and was signed by the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. He and Tom Wilkinson formed a powerful quarterback duo and helped lead the Eskimos to an unprecedented five consecutive Grey Cup victories.
After six seasons in the CFL, teams south of the border finally took notice and in 1984 Moon was signed by the Houston Oilers where he would be the starting quarterback for the next ten seasons. Moon then spent three seasons in Minnesota and two in Seattle before spending two seasons as a backup in Kansas City. Moon retired in 2000 after 23 professional seasons.
