Wahroonga

Wahroonga is a suburb of Sydney, Australia. It is located in the upper North Shore area, and is about 20 kilometers north west of downtown Sydney. Most of Wahroonga lies within the Ku-ring-gai local government area, part of it is in the Shire of Hornsby.

Wahroonga lies on a plateau almost 200 meters above sea level, with higher rainfall than most of Sydney and fairly good soil. In the early days of British settlement in New South Wales, the main activity was cutting down the tall trees which grew there. Later there were many orchards, and when the railway was built it became a popular place for businessmen to build out-of-town residences with large gardens in the 1920s and 1930s.

With the further expansion of Sydney the suburban development of Wahroonga has become more densely settled. Wahroonga is the starting place for the Pacific Highway Freeway to Newcastle.
