Viggo Kampmann



         


Viggo Olfret Fischer Kampmann (July 21 1910 June 3 1976 was a politician from Denmark. He was the Prime Minister of that country from 1960 until 1962.

Kampmann was born in Frederiksberg Denmark. He came from an academic background and rose to a high rank in the Danish Social Democratic Party, though no other academic had previously done so. He worked in the departments of statistics and taxation. He was finance minister in the cabinet of Hans Hedtoft briefly during 1950. When Prime Minister Hans Christian Hansen died in February 1960, Kampmann succeeded him. He was known for handling financial matters well, but not for his foreign policy experience. He was a supporter of trade unions and had their trust. He governed in a coalition with the radical liberal party. He resigned in September 1962 after a series of heart attacks, and was succeeded by Jens Otto Krag. He died in Storje Toren, Fakse municipality, Storstrom county, Denmark.
