The Vice-President of the Executive Council (Irish: Leas-Uachtarán na hArd-Chomhairle) was in effect the deputy prime minister of the Irish Free State, the Executive Council. The office was created in 1922, when the state came into existence. In 1937 the new Constitution of Ireland replaced the post with that of Tánaiste.
