Varahagiri Venkata Giri (August 10, 1894 - June 23, 1980), shortly known as VV Giri, was the fourth president of the Republic of India (August 24, 1969 - August 23, 1974).
He was born in Berhampore in the Ganjam district in Orissa. In 1913 went to University College, Dublin to study law, and was much inspired by the freedom movement there, as well as the Trade Union movement. He was a staunch Trade-Unionist throughout his life, helping found the All India Railwaymen's Federation and being twice elected President of the All India Trade Union Congress (1926, 1942).
Giri was chosen Vice-President in 1967 and elected President in 1969. He received the Bharat Ratna in 1975.
