Vanguard Records was set up in 1950 by brothers Maynard and Seymour Solomon. It started as a jazz label, but but shifted direction in 1959 by signing Joan Baez, Buddy Guy, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Country Joe and the Fish and others.
The label stayed dormant for most of the seventies, re emerged briefly with some disco releases in the eighties and was finaly sold to the Wek Group.
