V'Ger
Voyager 6 is a fictional spacecraft featured (as "V-ger") in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, loosely based on the real life Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 probes. The help of scientists from NASA was employed to make the probe's design credible.
The real Voyager probes
Voyager 2, launched 1977 August 20, and Voyager 1, launched 1977 September 05 -- both of which were lofted into space on a Titan 3 'E-Centaur' launch vehicle -- were the last two spacecraft of NASA's Mariner series, as well as the first in that series to be sent to explore the outer solar system.
