Utrecht University (Dutch Universiteit Utrecht) is a Dutch university in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Utrecht University is one of the oldest and largest universities in the Netherlands. Established March 26, 1636, it had an enrollment of 23,716 students in 2002, and employed 7,863 faculty and staff.

Two large faculties, Arts and Law, are located in the inner city of Utrecht, but the majority of the buildings is in De Uithof, a campus area in the outskirts of the city.

The university's motto is "Sol Iustitiae Illustra Nos", which means "May the Sun of Justice shine upon us".
