The United States Customs Service (USCS) was the portion of the US Federal Government dedicated to keeping illegal products outside of US borders. It also regulated what could leave the United States and was partially responsible for who could enter the United States.

History of the United States Customs Service

With the passage of the Patriot Act, the US Customs Service passed from under jurisdiction of the Treasury Department to the Department of Homeland Security.

On March 1, 2003, the U.S. Customs Service, Border Patrol, and the Immigration and Naturalization Service combined to form the current U.S. Customs and Border Protection(CBP).
