The United States District Court for the Northern District of New York is the Federal district court whose jurisdiction is comprised of the following counties: Albany, Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Cortland, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, St. Lawrence, Tioga, Tompkins, Ulster, Warren, and Washington. It has jurisdiction over the cities of Albany, Binghamton, and Syracuse.

The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York represents the United States in civil and criminal litigation in the court.

The Northern District of New York was subdivided out of the U.S. District Court for the District of New York on April 9, 1814 along with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
