Turnhout is a municipality located in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium, and in the Flemish province of Antwerp. The municipality only comprises the city of Turnhout proper. On January 1st, 2000 Turnhout had a total population of 38,596 (18,933 males and 19,663 females). The total area is 56.63 km² which gives a population density of 681.55 inhabitants per km².
