Tron (computing)

real-time operating system kernel. TRON is an acronym for "The Real-time Operating system Nucleus". The project started by Dr. Ken Sakamura of the University of Tokyo in 1984. Its aim is to create an ideal computer architecture.

The TRON framework define a complete architecture for the different computing units:

ITRON: for intelligent units and product line robots, Industry Tron
BTRON: for workstation and HMI, Business Tron
CTRON: for computing computers, Computing Tron
MTRON: for intercommunication between the different Tron components,

As of 2003, the TRON system (TRON OS) is the world's most used operating system, being present in millions of electronic devices.

The specification of TRON is open, but the code generators are not required to make their source free like GPL. The TRON project permits the source to be protected and closed from the standpoint of intellectual property.
