In traditional European usage, one trilliard equals one thousand trillion, or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 or 1021. One thousand trilliards equal one quadrillion.
In the U.S., Canada, and Britain, the term has been largely replaced by the system of million, billion, trillion, quadrillion, quintillion, etc., where each term is one thousand times the previous one.
