Trendnik developed in portions of Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan in New York City between 2002 and 2004 in reaction to the presence of the hipster in those areas. Trendnik is generally used to distinguish one's self from said community by implying that such people are not hip and on the cutting edge, but are in fact merely responding to a societal trend. Only rarely in use.
