Toolbar

In a graphical interface on a computer monitor a toolbar is a row, column, or block of onscreen buttons or icons that, when clicked, activate certain functions of the program.

Toolbars are seen in common applications such as Microsoft Word, and as browser add-ons for applications such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla. Interesting Toolbars include the Google Toolbar, Alexa Toolbar and StumbleUpon.

The first toolbar appeared in Microsoft Excel 3.0 in 1990.
