| 1 Tolar (1994) | |
The Tolar is the currency of Slovenia from October 1991. Its smaller unit is the stotin, 1 SIT = 100 stotins.
The ISO 4217 currency code for the Slovene Tolar is SIT.
The name tolar descends from the thaler, a silver coin first minted in 1518 in Joachimsthal, Bohemia, and is cognate with Dollar.
On 28 June 2004 the Tolar was pegged against the Euro in ERM II , the EU's exchange rate mechanism. Slovenia was party to joining the mechanism since joining the EU.
