Noted for the intangible cultural asset which is the Tobata Gion festival, and the Nishi Nihon Kogyo Club - a large house and garden adjoining Yomiya park, once owned by Matsumoto, one of the founders of the (Kyushu Kougyou Daigaku). The house (known as the Matsumoto-tei) was designed by Tatsuno Kingo who also designed Tokyo Station.
