A tidal island is a piece of land that is connected to the mainland by a causeway exposed at low tide and submerged at high tide. The most famous tidal island is Mont Saint Michel in Normandy, France. Other tidal islands include: Lindisfarne and St Michael's Mount in England; the Brough of Birsay in Orkney, Scotland; Lihou in the Channel Islands; and Bar Island in Maine.
