Thursday October Christian

Thursday October Christian (October 14, 1790 - ?) was the son of Fletcher Christian (leader of the mutiny on the H.M.S. Bounty) and his Tahitian wife Maimiti. He was conceived in Tahiti and born in Pitcairn soon after they took refuge on the island. His name was chosen at a time when Fletcher would still keep track of dates. Thursday was mainly brought up by his mother and inherited Tahitian wisdom. Fletcher would complement his education by passing on his European knowledge and sense of sailing. Later, Thursday became responsible for food and spiritual supplies. He took on the patriarcal role of his father when the latter returned to the continent.
