The Thousand Islands Bridge was constructed in 1937. It is located on the international border between the United States and Canada in upper part (western end) of the Saint Lawrence River near the western part of the Thousand Islands. The bridge is actually a series of bridges that span parts of the St. Lawrence River, ultimately connecting both banks.
The southern end of the bridge connects with Interstate 81, and the northern end of the bridge connects to Canada Highway 401. The actual international border bridge crossing is between Wellesley Island in the United States and Hill Island in Canada.
Additions to the bridge were made in 1959.
The bridge is adminstered by the Thousand Island Bridge Authority, and international agency.
