The Human Target is the name of an American comic book created by Carmine Infantino about a unique private detective and bodyguard named Christopher Chance who operates by impersonating his clients in order to eliminate threats to his principal, hence the idea of becoming a Human Target.
In later stories, a key element is that Chance is so good at impersonations that his own sense of personal identity is threatened to be lost in favor of his roles.
The series was adapted in a short lived television series starring Rick Springfield in 1992.
The series is currently running as part of the Vertigo comic book line.
