The Flood
The Flood is a life form in the computer game Halo: Combat Evolved
The Flood is a parasitic lifeform which is spread by infected carrier hosts. The Flood apear in three primary forms, the parasitic spores that attach themelves to hosts which start to transform their DNA, mutated hosts such as humans or covenant and carriers that explode expelling spours that continue the process. Flood that manage to assimilate their hosts gain full control of the body and access to memories and brain functions, they tend to be very powerful strong.
The origin of the Flood remains unknown but from what the Halo books and games tell us the Forerunners constucted huge "Fortress Worlds" to contain and study the flood, it is unknown how many of these halos exist but we do know that one of their functions is to fire weapons deep into space that destroys all life in the galaxy capable of sustaining the Flood in the even of a breach of containment. The thinking behind this is that if the Flood has no food then they will eventually starve to death allowing the galaxy to slowly re-populate.
The name "The Flood" has most probably been given due to the species sheer weight of numbers involved.
