The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter

"The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter" is a short story by Arthur Conan Doyle, featuring his fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. It is the story that introduces Holmes's older brother Mycroft. Although Mycroft's logical abilities are superior to Sherlock's, he is a lazy, apathetic character who rarely uses his powers to their full potential.

In the story a Greek interpreter, Mr Melas, is taken to a mysterious location on the outskirts of London and forced to act as an intermediary between two Englishmen and their Greek, emaciated captive. Sherlock, Watson and Mycroft, after the case is brought to their attention by Melas, attempt to save the captive and prevent Melas's revenge killing.

The story was originally serialised in Strand Magazine in 1893, and appeared later in book form in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
