Tender Mercies



         


Tender Mercies is a 1983 film which tells the story of an alcoholic country music singer whose friendship with a young widow and her son helps to turn his life and his career around. It stars Robert Duvall, Tess Harper, Betty Buckley, Wilford Brimley and Ellen Barkin. The movie was filmed in the Dallas, Texas area.

The movie was written by Horton Foote and directed by Bruce Beresford.

It won Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Robert Duvall) and Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, and was nominated for Best Director, Best Music, Song (for Austin Roberts and Bobby Hart for Over You) and Best Picture.
