Tansu Ciller



         


Tansu Çiller (born 1946) is an economist and politician in Turkey and was the first female prime minister.

She was born in Istanbul and was first elected to parliament in 1991 as a member of the True Path Party. In 1993 she became party leader and then prime minister of a coalition government. The departure of the Republican People's Party in 1995 brought down her government.
