Syed Mohammad was born to Syed Abdullah on 14th of Jamada al-awwal, the 5th month of Hijri calendar, 847 Hijri Era (corresponding Monday 9 September 1443 C.E.) at Jaunpur (India) which was a famous center of muslim scholars at that time. He is also remembered as Syed Mohammad Jaunpuri as he hails from the town Jaunpur. His name is Mohammad and Syed is the surname as Syed is traditionally borne as a family name by those who are descendants of Fatima the daughter of the last prophet of Islam, messenger of Allah, Mohammad.
Syed Mohammad Jaunpuri claimed to be the promised mahdi. He did so three times. In 901 Hijri era he travelled for the pilgrimage to Mecca. There he proclaimed for the first time of being the promised Mahdi. Then after returning to India he announced the same twice, once in 903 H.E. and finally in 905 H.E..
