Sutherland is a Local Government Area (Sutherland Shire) and suburb in southern Sydney, Australia.

The major commercial areas of Sutherland Shire are the suburbs of Sutherland; Menai; Miranda, home to a large Westfield shopping centre; Caringbah; and Cronulla, a beach resort and Sydney's southernmost ocean beach. Sutherland Shire also includes the village of Kurnell, close to the first landing site of James Cook and also home to Sydney's oil refinery. There are three national parks partially within Sutherland Shire: Botany Bay National Park, Heathcote National Park and the Royal National Park.

The suburb of Sutherland is the seat of Sutherland Shire. It is adjacent to Kirrawee and Woronora. It has a rather small commercial region and a major residential area, however is host to many urban facilities such as a general purpose entertainment center where citizenship ceremonies take place for individuals living in the Shire, local government council offices, and a major central library.
