The Strelitziaceae are a family of monocot flowering plants. The family includes three genera and seven species, which are native to tropical South America, southeastern Africa, and Madagascar. The best known species is the bird-of-paradise, Strelitzia reginae, native to South Africa but widely grown worldwide in tropical and subtropical gardens. S. nicolai, known as the giant bird-of-paradise, is another garden plant.
