Sprocket

A sprocket is a gear with metal teeth that mesh with a chain. Sprockets are used in bicycles, motorcycles, cars, and machinery. By varying the size of the sprockets on each side of the chain, you can modify the gear ratio. A 10-speed bicycle uses this theory to make the bike easier to pedal up hills or faster on flat roads. Changing the sprockets on a motorcycle can change the characteristics of acceleration and top speed by modifying the gear ratio.

Sprockets are used in the film transport mechanisms of movie projectors.
