Sports entertainment

Sports entertainment is combination of both sports and entertainment, best epitomized by professional wrestling. The term itself was coined by wrestling empresario Vince McMahon when describing the first WrestleMania pay-per-view. Such an event is "sports entertainment" as it combines the "sport" of professional wrestling with storylines and music made by bands such as Motörhead, Fozzy, Limp Bizkit and others. McMahon has distanced himself considerably from the professional wrestling past when it claimed to be strictly legitimate (in the face of all evidence to the contrary); this is apparently the result of two factors, the increasing sophistication of the audience for his product, and the fact that admitting that it is a performance frees him from certain conditons frequently imposed on actual sports, such as requirements that a physician be present at all times and that a fully-equipped ambulance be standing by.

"Sports entertainment" could also be defined as the half-time shows at the Super Bowl and other championship games and all-star games.
