Southern Indiana

Southern Indiana, in the United States, is notable because it is culturally and geographically more similar to the South than it is to the rest of the state of Indiana. It is also the first-settled area of the state. In particular the eastern portion of the region is part of the greater Louisville, Kentucky metro area.

Counties included in the Southern Indiana area include Clark, Dearborn, Harrison, Jefferson, Gibson, Warrick, Perry, Posey, Switzerland, Washington, Jackson, Orange, Daviess, Jennings, Pike, Crawford, Dubois, Lawrence, Ripley, Spencer, Vanderburgh, Floyd, Martin, Scott and Ohio.

The region's largest city is Evansville. Other major cities include the Louisville suburbs of New Albany, Jeffersonville and Clarksville.
