South Bay, Los Angeles



         


The South Bay is a region in the southwest peninsula of Los Angeles County. The bodies of water bordering the land mass include Santa Monica Bay and San Pedro Bay. The region is informally bounded by these bodies of water and Interstate 105 to the north and Interstate 110 to the east.

The cities and towns of the South Bay include Carson, El Segundo, Gardena, Harbor City, Hermosa Beach, Lawndale, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, San Pedro, Torrance and Wilmington.

Several ports and harbors in the South Bay provide access to the popular Santa Catalina Island.

People

Whites reside in several affluent seaside communities such as Manhattan Beach and Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates. Upper-class Chinese Americans have a small but growing presence in the area as well.

The cities of Torrance and Gardena have significantly large concentration of Japanese Americans whereas Carson has a large Filipino American and Samoan American community within Los Angeles.
