Sonic Advance is a video game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
The game was released in Japan for the Game Boy Advance on December 20, 2001. The game was released in North America for the GBA on February 4, 2002. The game was released in Europe for the GBA on April 12, 2002.
The distribution for Sonic Advance in North America was handled by THQ, while the European distribution was handled by Infogrames (now Atari).
The game was released in North America for Nokia's N-Gage on October 7, 2003, under the title Sonic N.
The game has four playable characters, Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, and Amy Rose. Gameplay is classic Sonic 2-D gameplay.
The special stages are accessible from Special Springs, which are placed around certain acts. Chaos Emeralds can be collected if one passes the stage. The chaos emeralds are "shared" between characters.

Completion of the X Zone yields the normal ending. Completion of the Moon Zone yields an extended ending.
