Something About Airplanes (1999) is the debut LP from the indie band Death Cab for Cutie. Erika Jacobs wrote, arranged, and performed the Cello parts on "Bend to Squares" and "The Face That Launched 1000 Shits". Abi Hall did some of the singing on "Line of Best Fit". For some reason the cover features a sketch of an empty rowboat.
Half of the songs on "Something About Airplanes" are re-recordings of songs that were on the cassette You Can Play These Songs with Chords. Some of the songs were performed almost identically. "Bend to Squares", "Your Bruise", "Sleep Spent", "The Face That Launched 1000 Shits", and "Fake Frowns" are the new songs.
Barsuk Records You Can Play These Songs with Chords plus 10 CD (which contains the 8 tracks of the Elsinor Records cassette of similar name plus ten additional tracks) features "State Street Residential", which Ben Gibbard notes was recorded for "Something About Airplanes" but was "replaced with "sleep spent" at the last minute".
