Sogn og Fjordane
Sogn og Fjordane is a county in Norway, bordering Møre og Romsdal, Oppland, Buskerud and Hordaland. In 2002 there were 107,280 inhabitants, which is 2.3% of the total population in Norway. Its area is 18,619 km². The county administration is in Leikanger.
The county includes Sogn, Sunnfjord og Nordfjord. Sogn surrounds Sognefjorden. Its length, from Solund on the offshore island of Sula in the North Sea to Skjolden, at the head of its longest branch, Lustra Fjord, is 127 miles 204 km. It is mainly a country-area with scattered population. It includes the biggest glacier in Norway, Jostedalsbreen, and the deepest lake, Hornindalsvannet. In the Jotunheim Mountains is Vettisfossen, Norway's second highest waterfall, with a vertical drop of 275 m. Cruiceships visit the district all summer, because of the fantastic view of high mountains and deep blue fjords.
Sheep, cattle, fruit and milk production is important for the economy. Hydroelectric power has enabled industry to develop. Aluminum production is centred at Årdal.
