Socket A



         


Socket A pioneered by AMD, is used as the base for Processors ranging from the Athlon K7 all the way up to AMD Athlon XP 3200+. Also known as the Socket 462, it features up to 400MHz Front Side Bus, 64KB of Level 1 Cache and 512KB of Level 2 Cache.

Socket A is slowly being taken over by newer Socket types such as Socket 939 used in the Newest line of AMD 64-bit processors, the AMD FX-53.
