Kelli's amicable departure, while lamented by many, was well received by critics who felt that it gave the band a more honest, emotional timbre. It has also helped curb the inevitable comparisons with Portishead. The band felt that Chris' vocals would be a better fit for Chris' lyrics. Many fans feel that the songs since Becoming X have lost the sometimes creepy bubblegum feel and have gained an emotional intensity, but some enjoyed Kelli's vocals precisely because of that creepy bubblegum feel.
Random trivia: "How Do," track 11 on Becoming X, is sung by Britt Ekland, who performed the song admirably (and completely naked) in the cult movie The Wicker Man.
