Smoothing plane



         


A smoothing plane is a type of bench plane used in woodworking, meaning the iron is bedded with the bevel facing down. The smoothing plane is typically the last plane used on a wood surface before scraping and sanding. The smoothing plane is typically 8 to 10 inches long, and held with both hands.
