The SkyOS is an operating system that was started in 1997 by Robert Szeleney. While originally developed as a hobby, it has now become a comercial endeavour. It is currently in its "5.0" life-cycle. Though it is still considered beta, many already use it in a production environment. SkyOS is quite mature, with programs like the GIMP and Abiword ported to it. A number of other applications are available as well, including audio/video players, games, and more.
The SkyOS runs on the x86 architecture of Intel-based PCs. SkyOS has a built-in shell (but is not completely POSIX-compliant) and also a built-in GUI called SkyGI. It should be worth noting that SkyOS is not UNIX compliant.
The team currently consists of Robert Szeleney (Chief Software Architect), Kelly Rush (Head of Operations), as well as a few other software and graphics developers.
