A Skidder is a type of vehicle used in forestry for pulling cut down trees (timber) out of a forest (logging).
It is a tracked or four wheeled tractor (with articulated steering) with a winch and protective steel, funnel shaped guards on the rear. Some skidders also have a grapple. A cable is reeled out and attached to a cut dow tree, then the winch pulls the tree towards the skidder and the tree is towed to a landing where the trees are loaded on a truck for further transport e.g. to a sawmill.
