Skencil

Skencil, formerly called Sketch, is a vector-based graphics program, released under the GNU Free License. Its first public version, Sketch 0.5.0, was released October 31, 1998.

Its website says that "Skencil is implemented almost completely in Python, a very high-level, object oriented, interpreted language, with the rest written in C for speed."

The software is now in version 0.6.16. It has versions compatible with GNU/Linux on i386, Alpha, m68k, PowerPC and Sparc, with FreeBSD, with Solaris 2.5.1, 2.6, 2.7, with IRIX64 6.4, and with AIX.

Developers are now working on port to GTK, a multi-document interface, and a multi font, fully integrated multi line text.
