Skate punk
Skate Punk was originally a derivative of hardcore punk, so named because of its popularity among skateboarders.
Music by hardcore punk bands such as Black Flag and the Circle Jerks was very popular to skateboard to. Eventually skaters started making their own music, similar to hardcore punk but better fashioned to skateboard to.
Skate punk was faster and more catchy than hardcore, and usually had a smartass humor to it.
The legendary 80's skateboareder Duane Peters grew into skatepunk, via skateboarding. He formed a couple of skatepunk bands; The U.S Bombs and later The Hunns.
Some bands in other genres have been called Skatepunk for promoting skating in their songs, such as notorious thrash punks Suicidal Tendencies, the more poppunk Offspring, and most recently, bands like NoFX and Rancid.
