The municipality comprises the city of Sint-Niklaas proper and the towns of Belsele, Nieuwkerken-Waas and Sinaai. On January 1st, 2000 Sint-Niklaas had a total population of 68,290 (33,288 males and 35,002 females). The total area is 83.69 km² which gives a population density of 815.99 inhabitants per km².
