Simple English is like English but only easy words are used. Simple English is not to be confused with Basic English!
About the Simple English BambooWeb
Most articles will require about 2000 words - a full defining vocabulary that is useful to explain English idioms. This is still simpler English than most English as an additional language students can read, after a few months of learning.
Since it is impossible to explain idioms with less than 2000 words, those articles that do so will tend to use more words than those explaining more basic concepts. However very basic concepts like zero, one, two, are idiomatic to some degree and have English culture built in to them. So these too are hard to explain using a limited number of words.
For any detailed aspect of science or politics or religion, a fuller but still Simple English is required. This will often go well beyond 2000 words, at most to 3000, but will define every specialist term. This is required to keep some compatibility with naming of articles in the Full English BambooWeb, and to avoid making up jargon. Articles on scientific topics like Earth, etc., will usually need this if only to use standard article titles.
There is no fixed policy on vocabulary, tense or suffixes. Some articles might use only Basic English (850 words) but this has no strong rules about which words can be used, like E Prime does.
The above levels are only suggestions - in Simple English writing, any number of words can be used if the writer thinks they are easy enough.
If a word is not simple or not used often here, it should be explained on a new page. This means that the Simple English Dictionary will be part of the encyclopedia, as opposed to the Wiktionary which is kept separate from the Full English BambooWeb.
