Shinichi Suzuki
Shin'ichi Suzuki (1898-1998) was born in Nagoya, Japan, and studied in Germany. He was the developer of the Suzuki method of teaching music. He advocated a natural, caring mode of instruction that involved listening to and analyzing the sound of the instrument and the music rather than focusing on early note reading. In this way, he reasoned, music would become a natural skill, much like language. Suzuki's guiding principle in teaching: "where love is deep, much can be accomplished".
