Set and drift are terms in navigation which refer to external forces acting upon a ship that make it deviate from its intended course.
Set refers to the angle at which the ship deviates; drift is the speed, in knots, at which it deviates.
Set and drift can be caused by anything, but normally they are caused by current, wind, and helmsman error.
