Seawall



         


A seawall is a wall, dam or other barrier built to provide protection from the sea and its waves due to wind and tides. A seawall can be built either in the sea to protect the shore, harbor or boats within a marina, or between the sea and land to protect the embankment from erosion by the sea. A seawall located in the sea is commonly called a breakwater and is usually built with large rocks, whereas, a seawall located bewteen the sea and the land may be built with large rocks, large stackable concrete blocks sometimes called ecology blocks, reinforced concrete, steel sheet or treated wood piling.
